Chicago is Spending the Holidays with #AMCandCocaColaFreestyle

A big thanks to Markerly, AMC Theatres and Coca-Cola Freestyle for sponsoring this post. As always, all opinions and thoughts are my own.

At the days start to get chilly in Chicago, what better way to spend some family (or friend) quality time indoors keeping warm while watching a great movie. Join AMC Theatres and Coca-Cola this winter and experience the new Coca-Cola Freestyle Machine and enjoy your own custom Coca-Cola Freestyle drink.

I love going to the movies. And this past week a couple of friends of mine and I did just that. We simply visited and found out which theatre location had the freestyle machine. After all we wouldn't want to be disappointed if we got to the theatre and it wasn't available. You can also download the AMC Theatre app to your phone and find a location that way. We also visited the site in order to find out what movies were playing. We decided we needed a good laugh and chose to watch Horrible Bosses 2, which did in fact turn out to be funny. I'm sure everyone will have their own opinion, but I enjoyed the second movie much more than the first. Must have been the addition of Chris Pine.

When we arrived to the theatre we were able to see the machines as soon as we walked in. If you aren't familiar with the machine, it is kind of like a big ATM. You walk up to it and are greeted by the numerous drink choices. You can choose to be simple (choose one flavor), or be adventurous and choose multiple flavors to add to one drink. It really is a lot of fun to come up with your flavor. This mega-machine puts 100+ drink choices at your fingertips. So whether you’re craving a Sprite® Peach, Hi-C® Raspberry Lime or a Dasani® Lemon, they've got you covered. And when you purchase a large drink there are free refills!

My fellow companions were a bit weary about mixing up their flavors. But they were happy to see the many different drink choices they had.

My one friend stayed classic and went with a Coca-Cola.

While my other friend was excited to see Fanta on the menu. She opted for Orange and Strawberry.

I on the other hand wanted to see what I could really do with the machine. I saw that they offered Hi-C flavored drinks. I went all out and pushed just about every flavor there was! In the end my drink was yummy and sweet. Mostly it tasted like a fruit punch with a hint of lime. Definitely a satisfying flavor for this pregnant girl!

Now head out to the movies with family or friends. Try out the Coca-Cola Freestyle Machines and let me know which flavors you chose! Here's a $1 off coupon, enjoy!

Inspired at 2014 Glamour's Women of the Year

On November 10th, Glamour Magazine honored its 2014 Women of the Year. I was lucky enough to volunteer to help out (directing outside people traffic to the ticket pickup), and with that was able to attend the show. I had gone a couple of years ago and was so inspired by all of the women that I just had to go back again. I did get to see some of the lesser known nominees outside as they rushed into will call. That was pretty cool.

The event was full of very powerful women, from politicians to activists to celebrities to everyday women (and girls) making a difference in their own cities. Among the women being honored were Lupita Nyong’o, Chelsea Clinton (having her first “night out” since having her daughter), Robin Roberts, Laverne Cox, and my favorite girl Mindy Kaling, just to name a few. I don’t know if it was the extra hormones running through my body, but everyone’s speeches had me on the verge of tears, even presenter Amy Schumer’s tribute about Joan Rivers.

My favorite nominee was presented by Stephen Colbert. He’s such a witty guy. And I love Mindy. I love her motto “Why not me?” And that is now something I ask myself when ever I want to do something. Mindy if you read this, I want to be your BFF, after all, why not me?

Although we were up in the nosebleed section, it was nice to have all of the honorees look up directly at the balcony and inspire us to be the best we can be. Even in my thirties, there is always room for inspiration.

The night ended, and the attendees got to go home with a special goody bag full of the sponsor products. Thanks L’Oreal. I hope I get to back!

A Quick Trip to NYC!

Two weeks ago I had quite the trip, just 24 hours in NYC and 16 weeks pregnant. That was going to make things more interesting. It was of like my solo Baby-moon. Usually I’d walk everywhere, but this time around I was going to rely heavily on public transportation. And the good thing about the city is yes you can take the subway anywhere. Thank goodness, because I could barely get down 2 blocks without feeling out of breath or the need to pee. LOL. I figured, who knows when I’ll get the chance to take a trip to NYC. Plus there were just a couple of places I still needed to get off my bucket list.

I finally visited the Empire State Building. Not what I expected at all. Movie magic had made me think of the space in such a different way. When I finally got up there I was surprised as to how tight the area was. But the view was amazing! It was also a very different feeling than that of being at the Willis Tower (aka Sears Tower). The second place I needed to visit was the 9/11 Memorial. I didn't have time to visit the museum, but walked the area and saw where the two towers once stood. Although I knew no one who had been there at the time, it’s still very emotional. I still remember watching the news as it all happened. I’m glad I was able to visit the site. I also attended the Glamour Women of the Year event, which I will follow up with in another post. And last but not least, took a brisk walk after the show to Times Square. The lights are so bright! A very quick trip, goodbye New York, until we meet again!

And if you are looking for a cheap, yet decent place to stay near Times Square, I recommend Comfort Inn. It was a small room, but perfect for those just looking for a place to sleep, rest, shower, and leave your belongings.

And one makes 4!

Here comes baby number two!

So the last couple of weeks have been wonderful! Ah, Pregnancy. Well minus of course, the morning sickness, fatigue, head colds, sore feet, non-stop visits to the bathroom. I think I'll stop there. I mean other than those tiny details, I have been having the time of life letting people in on our little secret. So yes finally at the beginning of the second trimester we were able to let our friends and family know that we would be welcoming a new baby come April 2015. We cannot wait to be a family of 4. We had Maddie help out and make our announcement on social media. Because after all, its not official unless its posted on the internet.

We thought now would be the perfect time to add another one to the family. This would put Maddie and the new baby at about 3 years apart. And yes, I am stressing out and hope that this baby will stay put until it is fully baked! Having a preemie baby is scary, and hopefully we don't have to go through that again.

This pregnancy so far has been completely different than the first. With Maddie, it was smooth sailing until delivery. This time around I've been hit with every possible pregnancy symptom. I'm not one to complain too much, but yes this time around that morning sickness had me, well you can imagine, it was not pretty. Luckily science and technology is around to help. So with a  couple of pills I've been able to stay on track and keep on with a pretty normal daily routine. But with the second trimester comes hope of morning sickness going away and my energy coming back, since I do have a toddler to keep up with!

Protecting Your Baby From Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV)

This is part of a sponsored collaboration with MedImmune and Latina Mom Bloggers. However, all opinions expressed are my own.

There are so many things we have to worry about when we bring a newborn baby home. But imagine how much more one has to worry when their baby decides it wants to come a little earlier than planned. I've learned that each year worldwide, 13 million babies are born prematurely. But still many parents don’t know the risks of premature birth, which is the leading cause of neonatal death. I for one wasn't exactly sure how many weeks were considered early, just like 75 percent of parents. The definition of premature is birth at or before 37 weeks gestation, and during prenatal care, most pregnant women don’t ask their healthcare provider about the risk of delivering prematurely and the potential consequences of preterm birth for their child, I know that I never discussed this with my doctors. I thought that since I did everything by the book that I would have no problem delivering on or around my due date.

I know for me in particular I was very scared when at 34 weeks I went into preterm labor. Luckily my doctors were able to stop it for an extra week, but baby did arrive at just a little over 35 weeks. I was holding this just over four and a half pound baby and didn't know what to do. Because of their immature lungs and fragile immune systems, preemies often have specialized health needs. Preterm infants do not receive the full amount of infection-fighting antibodies that are transferred in utero, leaving many susceptible to a variety of illnesses and infections, especially during the winter months. I was afraid to let anyone hold her and at one point I almost didn't even want to breathe on her for fear of spreading my germs and not knowing if her immune system would be strong enough. I thank God everyday that my little girl turned out to have a pretty clean bill of health and was able to go home, even at that low weight.

In the time leading up to November 17—World Prematurity Day—we’re hoping to educate all parents of the increased risks that often come with premature birth, particularly around one seasonal virus that poses a threat to infants – Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV).

What is RSV?
RSV is a common seasonal virus, contracted by nearly all children by the age of two, and typically causes mild to moderate cold-like symptoms in healthy, full-term babies.
RSV occurs in epidemics each year, typically from November through March, though it can vary by geography and year-to-year.
RSV disease is the leading cause of hospitalization for babies during their first year of life in the United States, with approximately 125,000 hospitalizations and up to 200 infant deaths each year.
Despite being so common, many parents aren't aware of RSV; in fact, one-third of mothers have never heard of the virus

Why Are Preemies At Higher Risk for RSV?
While every baby is at risk of contracting RSV, babies born prematurely are at increased risk for developing severe RSV disease. In fact, preterm infants are twice as likely as full-term infants to be admitted to the hospital for RSV-related symptoms.

What Are the Symptoms of Severe RSV Disease?
Contact your child’s pediatrician immediately if your child exhibits one or more of the following:
Persistent coughing or wheezing
Bluish color around the mouth or fingernails
Rapid, difficult, or gasping breaths
Fever (especially if it is over 100.4°F [rectal] in infants under 3 months of age)

How Can I Help Protect My Baby From RSV?
RSV is very contagious and can be spread easily through touching, sneezing and coughing. Additionally, the virus can live on the skin and surfaces for hours. There is no treatment for RSV disease once it’s contracted, so prevention is critical. To help minimize the spread of RSV disease, all parents should:
Wash their hands and ask others to do the same
Keep toys, clothes, blanket and sheets clean
Avoid crowds and other young children during RSV season
Never let anyone smoke around your baby
Steer clear of people who are sick or who have recently been sick

I know this is a huge amount of information to process. And I hope many of you will let get informed and let other parents know as well, especially those who will be delivering in the winter months. To learn more speak to your child’s pediatrician to determine if your baby is at high risk for RSV disease, and if so, what additional steps may be recommended. Making Waves with Kiss Instawave

I received a free product/sample in order to facilitate my review. All opinions as always are my own.

I have been having so much fun curling my hair these last couple of days. I have been using the Kiss Instawave. It's a curling iron that that automatically does the curl for you. All you have to do is set your hair on the clip and push a button. It twirls your hair around the barrel, tangle-free, and after just a couple of seconds you pull it down and just like magic - a perfect curl.

I admit it did take me a couple of tries to get the hang of it. I was trying to look in a mirror so had to keep remembering to to do the opposite of what I saw! Once I figured out the trick to getting it "hooked" and which way to turn the dial it was super easy, and extremely fast. It probably took about 10 minutes to curl all my hair.

I like looser waves so once I did the curls and put some hair product in it, I finger-combed through it to get the look I wanted. The curls are about one inch, but I've heard they plan on making different sizes in the future. Also once you learn to use it, you'll figure out that the longer you hold your hair in the barrel the tighter the curl will be. This will be my new go to hair tool. I usually flat iron my hair, because I have the hardest time curling my hair and making it last the whole night. But this tool is perfect for me. I'm looking forward to the next time I use. Its like they said: Bringing the Salon Home

Before, During, and After using Instawave. Tip:  For looser curls just use fingers to comb through hair.

Also looks great up in a ponytail!

Available at some of my favorite stores: Target, Ulta, and for SRP: $59.99

Enrique Pitbull Tour Comes to Chicago

For weeks and weeks I waited in anticipation as the date drew nearer. October 3rd. I was finally going to see Enrique Iglesias, after years of not seeing him in concert. I had gotten an awesome pair of tickets to the show, right by the catwalk.

But as the show ended, I couldn't help but feel disappointed. Don’t get me wrong it was a fun night. J Balvin did a couple of songs, I knew only one. I’m a fan of Pitbull when it comes to dancing to his songs for Zumba (thanks Mich), but I really didn't think much of it before. But after seeing him perform, I think he’s great. He really knew how to work the crowd. This night turned out to be more of a Pitbull show. Enrique came on and did a couple of songs; he mostly sang a couple of versus and let the audience sing most of the words. He did a set on the second stage, but it was mostly a fan interaction where they sang a non-Enrique song. Eh, it was alright. I guess the most exciting thing was when a girl got past security and got on stage. It was funny, they had her by the foot, but she still wiggled her way out and jumped on Enrique, good for her! But then of course you got the copy-cat girls who wanted to do the same, and just made things worse. They should have just escorted those girls out instead of trying to keep fighting them to stand still.

Anyway we knew the moment would come when Pitbull would once again emerge. And he did. I thought this was a great half way moment…only to find out it was the end of the show. Enrique’s set was about 45 minutes long. I’m glad I was able to get the cost of my ticket down to half of the original cost, but I can’t imagine that those who paid full price or more to see Enrique were satisfied. In the end I really felt it was a Pitbull concert and Enrique was just the second act. Hopefully the next time around I will be better satisfied. Still love the guy, but yeah, that just wasn't one of his better shows.

And just for old times sake a throwback to the good ol' days.

Fall Favorites

Now that the weather has finally gotten a little crisp, I can finally feel like I can show off the key pieces I plan on wearing this fall. Below is a quick picture of my pics.

This years it color is Cobalt Blue. I think the blouse can create a nice pop of color in an other wise mute outfit. Loving the D-ID jeans. The zippers give the jeans a bit of rocker personality, which compliment the leather moto jacket from American Eagle. Of course can't forget about those important accessories. The purse is a steal at Charlotte Russe. It's black and studded. Perfect for day or night. And I can't wait to get those shoes! These are available at (yes, my favorite shoe store). They are BCBG, and again can be worn anytime of day. Work appropriate.

While working on the post it was brought to my attention that there's a great site, where you can buy and sell gift cards at a discount. Raise is a great online resource that can help amp up your Fall wardrobe while saving you money. And if you have merchandise credit or gift cards you don't want you can sell them too! Many of the stores I mentioned above are available online. I've posted links to where you can either buy or sell your gift cards below. Enjoy adding some new items to your closet!

City Samba by New York Color

I've been trying out a new collection from NYC New York Color called City Samba. Think: Brazillian Beauty Escape. With names like Carnival Red, Sweet Melon, Copabanana, Palm Tree, Amazon Green, Ocean Blue,  Jacaranda Flower, and Tropicoral there's no way to deny it! For  a girl who loves to switch up her shades often, these $1.99 bottles are perfect. I must warn you they dry super quick, which is why In A New York Color Minute Quick Dry Nail Polish is the perfect name.

My two favorite colors were Jacaranda Flower and Palm Tree. I felt that I did need three coats to get the best shade. Taking off the Palm Tree color did prove a bit difficult as I felt it kept staining my fingers, but after some work it all came off.

This collection will be available through September. To find a retailer near you, please visit

The collection also includes:

Liquid Lipshine Lip Gloss ($1.99) in shades: Papaya, Passion Fruit, Guava.

Sun N’ Bronze Bronzing Powder ($4.99) in Rosa Rio and Coral Samba shades

Show Time Nail Art ($1.99) in Black Ink, Pinkasso and Silverism.

Loreal’s Extraordinaire by Colour Riche - Rich and Bold

As part of the People Style Watch Style Hunters I received a sample in order to facilitate to this post.

When it comes to choosing between lipstick and lip gloss, I tend to lean more towards lip gloss. With L'Oreal's Extraordinaire by Colour Riche, I felt like I was getting the best of both worlds. It goes on like a lip-gloss, but it’s thick and almost like a lipstick. The colors are very bold. Especially the Ruby Opera, which is not a color I would typically wear. That is definitely a shade I’d save for evening and special occasions. The more neutral Blushing Harmony is more me, and a work friendly color. The third color I was able to try is Coral Encore, definitely one of my favorites. It’s a color that is on trend and is very fun to wear. Already a staple color for my summer weekends!

I like that its not sticky, but the only down side, as with any lip gloss is that it does need to be re-applied, and it will transfer…so you will see your lips on anything they touch, such as your coffee cup/mug, significant other, etc.

Blushing Harmony, Coral Encore, and Ruby Opera

Now you can win your very own Extraordinaire in Coral Encore! Winner chosen on July 9th, 2014

How To Make A Color Pop With Accessories

Being part of People StyleWatch Style Hunters has its perks. Recently I was chosen to receive a gift card from Ann Taylor Loft and style an outfit. Check out the photos below and let me know what you think! If you want a chance to become part of this network click here for details.

I picked this dress because I loved the colors in it. And I thought it would be perfect with my clutch. I think picking out a not so prominent color in the dress and adding an accessory in that color really makes it pop.

At Home Gel Manicures Made Easy by Sally Hansen

I received this product at no cost in order to facilitate my review. All opinions are my own.

After spending and average of $30 per gel manicure I decided it was time to try on the Sally Hansen Gel Manicure Starter Kit. It retails for about $69, but is currently at $40-47 (depending on the color) at Target.  It could pay for itself in less than two visits to the nail salon.  Well lucky for me I got to try the item thanks to Sally Hansen. This kit is good for ten manicures!

After trying it out I have learned that you must follow the directions to a tee. It will make for the best manicure if you follow them and will help to make it last longer.

For a normal at home nail job, my manicure usually goes about 2-3 days before it chips. This happens when you do everyday things such as dishes, cleaning, typing, and the occasional nail-bite. After I tried this product it was perfect for the first week. I didn't go beyond that simply because after a week I wanted a new color. This particular kit came with a very light pink color called Shall We Dance. So it barely showed, and well I just wasn't crazy about the color.

You have to be sure that you use a very thin coat and let dry for 30 seconds, before moving on to the next thin coat. And be sure that before you “set” the polish you clean the area on your fingers that my have gotten some polish on them and off of your cuticle. On a couple of nails I didn't do this and you could tell this would be an area that could chip. In order for it to stick to the nail, you need it to only be on the nail. It makes sense.

You do have to have a little patience as you will do a few rounds of 30 second increments for the base, polish, second coat, and top coat. But if you love doing your nails and having the polish last, then this shouldn't be a problem. I’m looking forward to trying out other colors, darker colors that I can live with for more than a week, but it’s hard. I want to paint my nails a different color too often. And definitely follow the instructions for removing the gel polish as well. Do not be tempted to peel them off like regular polish.

I like the product and as a mom sometimes I just don’t have time to pamper myself outside of the house. So pampering at home is needed and I would recommend this product. Best bet is to look for a coupon or sale.

Lands End #GetawayTour Chicago Edition

Thank you to MomSelect and Lands' End for the opportunity to attend this event!

This past Saturday I attended the Land’s End Getaway Tour in Chicago. They set up a pop-up location outside at one of the parking lots located outside of the Old Orchard Mall in Skokie.

The event was from 11-5 pm. I arrived around 4 pm. When I got there I was greeted and given instructions to tour the area and look at the great swimsuits available. Once I made my way to the end someone was there to take my name so I could have my personal fitting. The personal fitting consisted of 3 important measurements: Bust, Waist, and Hip. With these the numbers the consultant was able to find the best suitable size for me. One we had determined my size we went over the different types of swimsuits and decided what I would try on. I opted for the one-piece single shoulder strap suit and for a tankini. Both fit very well. I think I looked pretty good. Over all the tankini was the better fit for me. And since I’m still working on my six-pack the tankini can help cover up the not so perfect areas.

Going in I probably would have picked up the wrong size, so I’m glad someone was there to help me find the perfect fit. I think this would be a great service to have at all of the Land’s End locations.

I was also able to chat with Glamour Ambassador Kendall Farr. She gave me some great styling tips. She showed me the proper way to tie a mesh Sarong cover-up. I admit I had no idea how to do this before, but now that I've learned I might have to start using one. It really is a great piece that is flattering on any body type. The other type of cover up is the empire poncho. I personally love this look. It helps bring attention to the top of my body instead of the bottom. I like that it is flowy at the bottom.

While I was looking around I noticed a lot of different patterns being mixed together. Dots and stripes, paisley and stripes (see picture below for example); it all looked pretty cool, but I wasn't sure how I would pull of something like that on my own. I asked Kendall what she thought of the trend and she said she loved it, one of her favorites. She said the best way to figure out what to pair together is to look for a predominant color in both patterns. That will tie the look together.

The other great thing about these pieces is that you can mix and match. This can easily turn two bathing suits into four. That’s a great way to be economical and save room in that suitcase when traveling!

By the way received this very awesome canvas tote with zipper! Zippers are lifesavers. It will make a great beach bag. Will definitely come in handy this summer!

Their Tote display and My Tote display, plenty of good reads for this summer

If you are unable to attend any of the events you can still join in on the fun.

A Bitter Sweet Goodbye

A couple of days ago I had to say goodbye to some really good friends of mine. It was just time to move on and let them go. And yes goodbyes are always sad, but in this case it was a long time coming. Definitely a relationship that was far longer than I had thought it would be. Two years they were with me almost daily, but in a way I’m glad. It’s like I have found some new freedom.

Thank you to my nursing bras for being there for me! You helped me nurse my sweet little girl for two years, that’s about one year and a half more than I thought I would even last. Of course it sounds funny now as I type this, but seriously they were the best; easy to handle, easy to wash, easy to wear. But I am so ready to go back to wearing my cute, and dare I say sexy, bras. I think having the right bra really helped me keep going with breastfeeding. And of course the support from family and friends was much appreciated.

Who would have thought some $12 Gilligan & O'Malley® bras from Target would be so awesome. I only hope that if there is a next time they’ll be around. Currently I haven’t seen the soft cotton wireless ones at Target.

I have a feeling the person who will be happiest of all is my better half! Sure Maddie missed it at first, and it was so hard on me to tell her no more, but a week later she’s also moved on. I’ll miss Maddie and me time, but now we’ll spend that time doing something else, perhaps reading more books…and maybe indulging on the things I couldn't have before…Hello coffee, wine, beer and spirits! Here’s to a different kind of summer (compared to the last two years)!

Friends come and go, but it’s the ones that leave a lasting impression that matter most.

A tough couple of nights for this kiddo, but happy as a clam now

#LashOut with Physicians Formula Sexy Booster Mascara

I was given a free sample to review. All opinions are my own.

Thank you to Harper’s Bazaar for sending over Physicians Formula NEW! Sexy Booster™ Va Va Voom Volume Mascara for me to try out.

First of all, I was happily surprised with the way the mascara was packaged. The tube it comes it definitely screams out S-E-X-Y! It has on over lay of “velvet lace”. Nice touch. And to give it some extra Va Va Voom, a cute heel charm.

I've been wearing the mascara for a little over a week. The brush is good. It’s “bristles’ are pretty spread out which I think helps in keeping the clumpy look away. It is a 24-hour wear mascara, but seeing as I do like to sleep I can only tell you about the 16 hours I was wearing it. After I curled my lashes I had to put on about 3 coats since my lashes are short, and straight. It stayed on, didn't smudge or streak. I felt that the extra coats added some length to my lashes. Love when a product can do that for me. The best part is that the mascara retails for just under $10. And if you hurry into Target, they have a promo: Buy one Physician’s Formula cosmetic, get one free – Score! Now through 5/24/14. Enjoy and #LashOut!

My Springtime look, keeping it simple. Just a dusting of gold and brown tone eye-shadows and some mascara.
