Kangu - Where A Small Donation Can Make A Big Difference

I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central and Kangu. I received a promotional item to thank me for my participation.

As many of you know I am currently pregnant with my second child. I am looking forward to twice the love, the hugs and kisses! Now that I’m a mom, I can’t imagine how my life would be with out my daughter and soon to arrive second daughter. With my first baby, she came a little early but thankfully I had a great hospital and great doctors to see me through till delivery. I am so blessed to live in such a great country like the US where delivering a baby, no matter how complicated, can be achieved. But many other women aren’t as lucky. That is why I wanted to bring your attention to Kangu.

Kangu is a non-profit organization with a big dream: that every woman in the world has a safe birth. And I think that is a great dream! Kangu utilizes a crowdfunding platform. Using this type of fundraising helps put an end to preventable maternal and newborn deaths. It helps donors put funds towards the well being of mothers and their babies.

It is really sad to find out that every day, 800 women die from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth, most being in developing countries.  So what can we do to help? Through Kangu you can make a donation and help these women and babies. You can log onto www.kangu.org  to see which women are in need and contribute to their pregnancy wellness, so they too can have a safe pregnancy.

When you log on you are able to see the profiles of mothers who need funding. I’ve learned that in developing countries, and through the help of Kangu partners, the cost of care is very low compared to the US. So every donation no matter how small you think it is can make a difference. If you make a donation as small as $10, you will also be updated on the mother and child after birth! How great to know that your donation went somewhere good, plus its tax deductible (the accountant in me).

I’m also happy to see that a country close to my heart is one of those being helped. Mexico, although not as developing as other countries, does suffer from poor pre-natal care in very rural areas. And I’m more than happy to make a small contribution. No pregnant mother should have suffer or lose a child from something that could have been prevented.

#DisneySide @Home Celebration Party Villains Theme

I received free products in order to host a Disney Side @Home Celebration from Disney Parks and MomSelect. The opinions expressed here are my own.

I’d like to thank my friends and family for coming out and helping me celebrate my birthday by showing our #DisneySide. We had a blast thanks to the sponsors who sent us some nice goodies.

This year I was chosen to host an @Home Celebration to show off my Disney side. I thought it would be a great way to get friends and family together and have a fun time, and well, who doesn't like a birthday party. This time around Disney had given out different themes, from Princesses, to Cars, to multi-generational, and tween/teens. I was given the opportunity to do a tween/teens Villains party. This meant embracing those characters we often don’t see in the best light. For me specifically it meant channeling my inner Maleficent!

Below are some of the awesome host items we received:

* Disney Side Villain inspired Napkins, Cups, Plates, Tablecloth and Decorations
* Nail Polish, Manicure Supplies and Nail Art Cards
* Disney Themed Games
* 2 Disney Villain Puzzles
* Mickey Mouse Cake Pan
* Duff Goldman Tie Dye Cake Mix
* Wilton Sprinkles
* My Image Bracelet Maker
* HP Create Memories You Keep Packs
* ALL Laundry Packs
* Samples of Wisk Detergent
* Two boxes of Twinings Tea
* Disney Vacation Planning DVD*
* Disney info pack with luggage tags for guests

I made some green cupcakes and topped them off with purple frosting and sprinkles. It really went well with the decorations and the kids (and adults really liked them). The intimidating part was trying to make the tie-dye cake. I wasn't sure what I was doing, but in the end the cake looked awesome! I can’t wait to try it again. I wish I would have gotten a picture before we ate it all up! Usually I would have gone a head and decorated the cake the “right” way, but I was a pressed for time and decided just to frost my Mickey cake in chocolate frosting and add sprinkles!

Guests enjoyed playing some fun games like bingo, pin the smile on Mickey and word search.

We also got to give our little girls some manicures using the included polishes. Although we wanted to try and make designs on them, their little fingers were just to small, but they loved the colors.

The best part of the party was making everyone a custom name bracelet using the My Image Bracelet Maker. You can even print your own images on your printer! The girls all picked their letters and designs. It was easy to use the machine!

Everyone also got to go home with HP Create Memories You Keep Packs so they could print their favorite memories at home, and a Disney luggage tag!

We had such a great time. I’d like to send a special thank you to  Cuties and CrunchPak for helping supply some delicious healthy snacks for my guests!

First Big Baby Purchase!

Now that we are officially less than 3 months away from the arrival of our baby girl, I finally had the chance to let it all sink in. We made our first big baby purchase this past week. The nursery furniture! We opted to go the same way as we did with our first daughter as the quality and sturdiness of the furniture was superb. Plus the pricing was right. It was the Baby Appleseed Stratford Collection from Buy Buy Baby. First time around we chose Espresso, but for this little girl we are going with Pure White. It is 4 pieces (5-Drawer Dresser, 6 Drawer Dresser, Hutch, and Convertible Crib), and just makes the room come together so nicely. Of course we have to wait anywhere from 6-12 weeks for it to all arrive, but lets be honest, baby won’t really be using any of it for a while so if we do not get it before she arrives, which of course will drive me crazy, it won’t be the end of the world. I would like to get the nursery all finished by mid-March, so wish me luck. I’m still going back and forth with what I really want the room to look like. I've at least settled on a color theme…I think!
